| St. Andrew Preparatory School was founded on September 16, 1930 as the Preparatory Department of the St. Andrew High School for Girls, which was then five years old. This department was at first housed in what was known as the garage of the high school, but within three years, September 21, 1933, it was to have its own home which is still very much in use to this day as part of the Primary Department building. In 1967, the transition from being a small Department of a High School to becoming the completely separate Preparatory School of today was realized.
The school started small, with only ten pupils, entered in the Admissions Register in the following order:
- Douglas Manley
- Brian Edwards
- Elsie Kneale
- Phyllis McPherson
- Edmund Khaleel
- Michael Manley
- Patrick Rennie
- Alleen Lushington
- Beverley Lushington
- Daphne Dacosta
Of these first ten, three were to serve as Ministers of Government with one, the Hon. Michael Manley, attaining the highest elected office in the land as Prime Minister of Jamaica. |
